This collaborative environment encourages students to support one another, build friendships, and develop the confidence to work as a team toward a common goal.
Poomsae training focuses on refining technical accuracy, movement quality, timing, power control, and strategic understanding. Through consistent practice, students improve their body control, confidence, and attention to detail while learning how to demonstrate their techniques with greater precision and expression.
As part of ATSA’s yearly development plan, students will have opportunities to showcase their progress through structured events and selected high-level platforms. These experiences allow students to challenge themselves, gain valuable performance experience, and continue growing in a supportive and collaborative learning environment.
Poomsae is an important foundation in Taekwondo development as it trains students to execute techniques with accuracy, balance, and proper movement quality. Through detailed correction and repetition, students learn to improve their stances, blocks, strikes, kicks, breathing control, and overall presentation.
Poomsae training also plays a significant role in preparing students for their grading examinations, as poomsae carries 70 marks in the ATSA grading assessment. Regular practice helps students understand the required patterns, improve their confidence, and perform better during their belt evaluation.
Poomsae Proficiency:
The Poomsae Class is open to students who have the ability to perform at least three Poomsae patterns: Taegeuk 1, Taegeuk 2, and Taegeuk 3 Jang. This ensures that students joining the class already have a basic understanding of Poomsae movements and can participate effectively in group training and advanced skill development.
2. Belt Requirement:
Students must be Green Belt or above to join the Poomsae Class. At this stage, students have developed sufficient fundamental techniques, discipline, and training experience to benefit from more detailed Poomsae coaching.
3. Physical Capability:
Students should be able to perform a full split as flexibility is an important component of quality Poomsae performance. Good flexibility helps students achieve better kicking height, stronger body control, improved movement lines, and more accurate execution of techniques.
4. Uniform Requirement:
Students are required to purchase a full set of RHINO Poomsae uniforms. This ensures that all participants are properly equipped for their training.
Enrollment in the ATSA Taekwondo Poomsae Class is selective to ensure that students are ready for the training level and can benefit from the program effectively.
Students who are interested in joining the Poomsae Class may approach the counter to make an appointment for an assessment session. The assessment date will be arranged with the teacher based on availability.
During the assessment, students are required to demonstrate their ability to perform Taegeuk 1, Taegeuk 2, and Taegeuk 3 Jang, as well as demonstrate their flexibility through a full split. This assessment allows our instructors to evaluate the student’s Poomsae foundation, technical ability, and physical readiness.
Once the student successfully passes the assessment, they may proceed with registration for the ATSA Poomsae Class and begin their journey toward improving technical precision, performance quality, and advanced Taekwondo skills.
