Welcome to ATSA Academy! To ensure a positive and productive learning environment, we have established the following detailed rules and regulations for all students. Please read and adhere to these guidelines:
1. UNIFORM POLICY:
At ATSA Taekwondo, we believe in maintaining a high standard of uniformity, safety, and discipline. Our uniform and safety gear policies are designed to ensure that all students receive the best possible training experience while adhering to the traditions and requirements of Taekwondo.
Attire for Ordinary Classes:
All students are required to wear the ATSA black tshirt or official Rhino Taekwondo training uniform (white dobok) during ordinary training sessions, as this standardised attire promotes unity, discipline, and an optimal learning environment. Students must ensure their uniforms are clean, neat, and properly fitted; sleeves must not extend beyond the wrist, and trouser length must not extend beyond the ankle. Instructors will conduct regular uniform checks to ensure compliance, and students who are not wearing the correct attire may be asked to sit out of the class.
Poomsae Uniforms:
The Poomsae uniform is exclusively for Special Poomsae Classes and Poomsae Competitions and is not permitted during regular training classes, events, or examinations. This uniform is designed in accordance with official competition standards to support optimal performance and maintain formality, while also distinguishing Poomsae athletes. Students are required to wear a properly fitted Poomsae uniform appropriate to their body size to ensure comfort, safety, and a neat appearance.
Sparring Uniform & Safety Gear:
The Sparring Uniform is strictly for use during Sparring Classes and Sparring Competitions only and is not permitted during regular training classes, events, or examinations. Designed to maximise flexibility and heat reduction, the Sparring Uniform must be properly fitted to each student’s body size to support safety and performance. During all sparring sessions and designated sparring training, full safety gear is mandatory, including headgear, mouthguard, chest protector, forearm guards, shin guards, and groin protector; students without complete gear will not be allowed to participate for safety reasons. Each student is required to purchase their own safety gear that meets ATSA standards, with sizing determined by number; ATSA will verify and place the order to ensure correct fitting, and instructors will assess the fit during the first use and recommend any necessary adjustments.
By adhering to these policies, we ensure a consistent and professional training environment where safety is prioritized, and students can focus on developing their Taekwondo skills.
2. DISCIPLINE AND BEHAVIOR POLICY:
At ATSA Taekwondo, we uphold the highest standards of discipline, courtesy, and respect, which are fundamental to the practice of martial arts. Our discipline and behavior policies are designed to create a positive, respectful, and productive training environment for all students.
Behavior Expectations:
Respect and Courtesy: All students are expected to consistently demonstrate respect and courtesy towards their instructors, fellow students, and the training environment. This includes addressing instructors and senior students with the appropriate titles and showing respect in all interactions.
Positive Attitude: Students should maintain a positive attitude and be supportive of their peers. Encouraging others and working together fosters a healthy and motivating training atmosphere.
Punctuality and Preparedness: Students are expected to arrive on time for all classes and events. Being punctual demonstrates respect for the instructor's time and the commitment to one's own training. Additionally, students should come prepared with the necessary equipment and ready to train.
Instructor Instructions:
Prompt Compliance: Students must promptly follow and execute the instructions given by the instructors during classes and events. This ensures that classes run smoothly and that all students benefit from the structured training.
Active Listening: Students should actively listen to their instructors, focusing on the guidance provided and asking questions if clarification is needed. This helps to maximize learning and ensure that techniques are performed correctly and safely.
Respect for Authority: Instructors are experienced and knowledgeable guides in your Taekwondo journey. It is crucial to respect their authority and expertise by adhering to their instructions and feedback without argument or hesitation.
Classroom Conduct:
Silent and Focused Training: During training sessions, students should maintain a quiet and focused demeanor. Unnecessary talking or distractions can disrupt the class and hinder the learning experience for others.
Physical and Verbal Boundaries: Physical and verbal interactions should always be conducted with respect. Any form of bullying, teasing, or inappropriate behavior is strictly prohibited and will be addressed immediately.
Training Area Maintenance: Students should contribute to maintaining a clean and organized training area. This includes properly storing equipment after use and keeping the training space free of clutter.
Consequences for Misbehavior:
Verbal Warnings: Initial minor infractions will be addressed with verbal warnings to correct behavior.
Temporary Removal: Repeated or more serious infractions may result in temporary removal from class or specific activities to reflect on behavior.
Parental Involvement: For younger students, parents may be contacted to discuss behavioral issues and work together to find solutions.
Suspension or Expulsion: In severe cases, continued misbehavior may lead to suspension or expulsion from the program to maintain the integrity of the training environment.
Positive Reinforcement:
Recognition and Rewards: Positive behaviors and improvements in discipline and respect will be recognized and rewarded. This can include verbal praise, awards, and other forms of acknowledgment to encourage continued good conduct.
Role Models: Senior students who consistently demonstrate exemplary behavior may be given additional responsibilities and opportunities to act as role models and mentors for younger or less experienced students.
By adhering to these discipline and behavior policies, we ensure that ATSA Taekwondo remains a place of learning, growth, and mutual respect.
3. COMPETITION CANDIDACY POLICY:
At ATSA Taekwondo, we take pride in preparing our students for competitive excellence. Our competition candidacy policy outlines the selection process, participation rules, and expectations to ensure a fair and productive experience for all involved.
Selection Process:
Master’s Discretion: The Master will selectively choose candidates for competitions based on their skill, dedication, and readiness. This ensures that only those who are truly prepared and committed represent ATSA Taekwondo in competitive events.
Criteria for Selection: Factors considered in the selection process include technical proficiency, consistent training attendance, attitude, and overall readiness for the competition environment.
Withdrawal Consequences:
Impact of Sudden Withdrawal: Sudden withdrawal from a competition after being selected may result in the loss of the opportunity to participate in that event and potential future competitions. This policy emphasizes the importance of commitment and reliability.
Consideration Before Commitment: Students are encouraged to carefully consider their readiness before committing to a competition. Withdrawals should be avoided to maintain the integrity of the selection process and ensure fair opportunities for all.
Event Participation:
Single Event Rule: A student is allowed to join either the poomsae event or the sparring event in the same competition, not both. This rule helps students focus their preparation and maximize their performance in one specific area.
Readiness Assessment: It is crucial for students to assess their readiness and choose the event that aligns with their current skill level. Those who feel unprepared are advised not to register. Once registered, withdrawals should be avoided due to the potential consequences.
Extra Training Requirement:
Mandatory Extra Training: After competition registration, all participants must diligently follow any extra training sessions provided. These sessions are essential for fine-tuning skills and ensuring optimal performance.
Attendance and Performance: Failure to attend additional training sessions may result in disqualification from the event. Consistent participation in extra training is vital for success in competitions.
Competition Limit:
Maximum Participation: Each student is limited to participating in a maximum of three competitions. This limit, set at the discretion of the Master, ensures that students focus on quality participation and meaningful growth rather than overextending themselves across numerous events.
Master’s Approval: The selection of which competitions a student can join is determined by the Master, taking into account the student’s progress and readiness.
Representation Policy:
Exclusive Representation: Students are not allowed to join competitions or represent other entities without explicit permission from ATSA. Representing other organizations without proper authorization may result in disciplinary actions, including disqualification from future events.
Commitment to ATSA: This policy ensures that students remain dedicated to ATSA and uphold its values and standards when competing.
By adhering to these competition candidacy policies, we ensure that our students are well-prepared, committed, and respectful representatives of ATSA Taekwondo.
4. PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT POLICY:
Parental involvement is a key component of a successful Taekwondo journey for students. At ATSA, we recognize the importance of encouraging parents to support their children while maintaining clear and respectful communication channels. The following guidelines outline our expectations and protocols for parental involvement.
Encouraging Support:
Active Participation: We encourage parents to actively support and engage in their child's Taekwondo journey. Your encouragement and involvement can significantly enhance your child's experience and progress in Taekwondo.
Positive Reinforcement: Parents are urged to provide positive reinforcement and celebrate their child's achievements, both big and small. This support helps to build confidence and motivation in students.
Communication Protocol:
Respectful Boundaries: While we value parental interest and concern, we request that parents refrain from checking or discussing the progress of other students. Inquiries about other students' matters are not permitted to maintain confidentiality and respect for all families.
No Gossip: Parents are strictly advised not to gossip about other students' progress or compare their own children with others. This helps to foster a supportive and positive environment for all students.
No Comments: Avoid making any comments or judgments about other students. Each child is on their unique journey, and respecting this is crucial for maintaining a harmonious atmosphere.
